Outstanding Contribution award for South West protected landscapes

Last week the best of the South West were announced at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards held in the Arena at the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay.

There was a special Outstanding Contribution award given to those looking after South West’s Protected Landscapes – the 2 National Parks, 13 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the S West Coast path, UNESCO Geopark and Biosphere.

Richard Stanbrook, Director of Title Sponsors, South West Water Business, said: “As headline sponsors for the South West Tourism Awards, South West Water Business continues to be fully committed to the prosperity of this important and thriving industry – helping businesses save money, improve their green credentials and capitalise on their long-term sustainability.”

SW Tourism Alliance Chairman, Alistair Handyside in making the presentation said “Today, Tourism in the South West would like to recognise the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Tourism’ that the Protected Landscapes make, that in turn, enables us to deliver such wonderful, and varied visitor experiences for our guests.”

Roger English Manager of the South Devon National Landscape Unit commented ” “We feel very privileged to receive this award. These landscapes and areas are special for a reason and it is great that this has been recognised. It showcases the value these areas have to the economy in the South West. The award is for all our teams and partners, but for me, also for all the farmers, landowners, businesses, organisations and individuals that help make these special places truly outstanding through generations of hard work and management.”

Other businesses in the South Devon National Landscape receiving awards incuded the Guardhouse Cafe at Berry Head, Salcombe Harbour Hotel in Salcombe and Hello Kingsbridge – Kingsbridge Information Centre.
