The care and management of the South Devon National Landscape is co-ordinated by a broad partnership of organisations and community representatives. The Partnership takes a strategic view of the area, publishes the National Landscape Management Plan and oversees the work of the National Landscape Team.

The purpose and organisational arrangements of the Partnership are set out in the National Landscape Partnership Constitution.

Membership

The Partnership members bring a wide range of knowledge and expertise, representing different sectors, communities and agencies. Some are appointed by organisations and some are elected.

Meetings

Partnership meetings are held three times a year and are streamed to YouTube so members of the public can follow the meeting live. Meeting dates, agenda papers and minutes can be viewed here as well as information about attending meetings.

Status of the National Landscape Partnership

Although ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’ is a statutory designation, the legislation does not provide for any official structures or organisations to manage and protect them. So unlike National Parks, there is no “National Landscape authority” with legal powers or decision making force.

The National Landscape Partnership is a non-statutory grouping of organisations and representatives which works by consensus, co-ordination and influencing.
